o   The 2015-2016 Leola Buccaneer Yearbooks are here!  There’s only a limited supply, so get yours today!  Each yearbook is $30; make checks payable to the Leola School.  Contact Mrs. Kappes to get yours today!

  • Students interested in running for next year’s student council president and vice president, please see Miss Huettl no later than April 27th.
  • Monday, May 1st - Dismiss 5th grade BAND students at 2:15 for field trip to Long Lake Colony.  We will return before school dismisses.  (Mid-bus)
  • Tuesday, May 2nd - Dismiss Junior High BAND students (non-track) at 2:15 for field trip to Spring Creek Colony.  We will return before school dismisses. (Mid-bus)
  • Pre-Order your 2016-2017 Yearbook today!  Contact Mrs. Kappes to order.  The 2016-2017 Leola Buccaneer will preorder for $25 until May 18, 2017
  • Four Leola students are currently selling Little Caesar Pizza Kits to raise money for Rushmore Music Camp.  You can order after the music concerts or email nancy.kindelspire@k12.sd.us if you have not yet been approached.
  • Is anyone missing a black belt from the HS Concert?  See Mrs. Kindelspire.
  • All Track Athletes that ordered a coat need to pay for it as soon as possible.
  • The gym will be in use this week from 1250-150 on TH.  Additionally it will be unavailable all day Thursday due to the elementary concert at 7:00 pm - piano prelude begins at 6:40 pm.
  • 4th and 5th hours will meet in the gym this week on TH.

If you want to join your child on May 1st for the late Easter turkey meal, please let Maria know by Friday, April 28th.

  • Any 17-18 juniors or seniors interested in Dual Credit classes (through a college or votech that YOU pay for) must do so before the end of the school year as most colleges deadline is August 21st and we do not start school until August 23rd. Leola Award's Banquet is Wednesday, May 3 at 6:30 pm in the gymnasium.  All students in grades 6 - 12 are encouraged to attend.  Students receiving awards will have their meal paid for by the school board.  For all others cost to attend is $5.00 for adults and $3.50 for students.  Students are reminded that this is a banquet to honor them, and they should dress appropriately.

 

Leola High School will present the play "Next Victim, Please" on Thursday, May 4 at 7:00 pm in the gymnasium.  Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.  Come support your classmates production!

 

Students in grades 7-12 – The first student to come to my classroom and tell me what Pig Latin is and give me an example receives a treat from me. Reminder: Please walk in the halls. – Mrs. Mueller

Leola Elementary was recently named a National Title I Distinguished School by the National Title I Association.

The school was chosen by the South Dakota State Department of Education based on outstanding performance in one of three categories:

  • Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years
  • Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups
  • Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homeless, migrant, English learners, etc.) 

 

Each year, only two schools in the state receive this national recognition. As a result, this is a particularly impressive honor for the students, staff, parents, and community. Leola Elementary School received this prestigious honor based on category two; closing the achievement gap between student groups.
