  1. The 2015-2016 Leola Buccaneer Yearbooks are here!  There’s only a limited supply, so get yours today!  Each yearbook is $30; make checks payable to the Leola School.  Contact Mrs. Kappes to get yours today!
  1. Prom sign up sheet is on Miss. Sumption’s door.  Please sign up you and your date by April 5th.  Only students in grades 10-12 are allowed to ask dates and your date can’t be older than 21.
  2. Peer Helpers meeting in Miss Huettl’s room Friday, March 24th over lunch.
  3. Thursday, April 13th, is PURPLE UP! for Military Kids Day in South Dakota.  This is a combined effort with the National Guard Child & Youth Program, 4H Extension, and communities nationwide to encourage everyone to wear purple as a visible way to show support, respect, and thanks to our military children for their strength and sacrifices. Please help us to honor them.  Attached is an order form for the Purple Up Shirts.
  4. Track kids-keep better track of your water bottles. Too many are abandoned on the stage.
  5. Ms. Larsen won’t be here Wednesday, March 26th.  She will be here Friday, March 31st instead.
  6. Seniors, please get your baby picture, mid-life picture, and senior picture to Mr. VanTilburg by Monday, April 3rd for the graduation video. You will have April to create your video (with background music & video snippets) and record each senior’s audio (does not need to be future plans-can be name, parents, shout-out, etc.) for Ms. Myer’s preview on Friday, April 28th. ~Ms. Myer
  7. There will be a football meeting for players in grades 8-11 Thursday, March 23rd at 6:00 PM in Mr. Van Tilburg’s with supper provided. 
  8. HS Students- please be checking the bulletin board by Ms. Myer’s office for different camps throughout the summer.

Leola Elementary was recently named a National Title I Distinguished School by the National Title I Association.

The school was chosen by the South Dakota State Department of Education based on outstanding performance in one of three categories:

  • Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years
  • Category 2: Closing the achievement gap between student groups
  • Category 3: Excellence in serving special populations of students (e.g. homeless, migrant, English learners, etc.) 

 

Each year, only two schools in the state receive this national recognition. As a result, this is a particularly impressive honor for the students, staff, parents, and community. Leola Elementary School received this prestigious honor based on category two; closing the achievement gap between student groups.
